Abstract

The need to promote systemic changes in education at European and international level, is linked, from the beginning of the 21st century, to a clear shift towards a competence-based education model, which focuses on the need for continuous and lifelong learning. This is the emergence of a new pedagogical model, the so called “Totally Pedagogised Society”, which is based on “trainability”, that is the development of an individual’s learning ability throughout his/her life, by using the symbolic control devices, the so called “technologies of the self”. In such a context the teaching profession is placed at the center of interest, as demonstrated by the growing scientific and institutional discourse about the “making” of the new educational subject. Methodologically the research is based on the critical literature review and attempts to highlight the particular importance
of the EU’s and IOs discourse about the teacher’s new professional profile, as this is reframed in the context of Bernstein’s Totally Pedagogised Society.
