Abstract
The present study raises some fundamental questions about the role of the critical educator in the light of a democratic and liberating education. In this context, key concepts discussed are equality, freedom, democracy, participation, cooperation, mutual respect and empathy. At the same time, it is proposed that the school change significantly. This change is expected to be realized not only by those inside the school but also outside it. Teachers as activists understand that the concepts of equality and social justice apply to the community as a whole and not just schools. In fact, the activist educator is considered appropriate to develop leadership actions, which “embrace” both the mind and the soul of the young people he trains.
